Tuesday, April 11, 2006 ::: TOO MUCH POP IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU I'm sure you all readers know I like music a lot (probably too much), and I'm inclined to like the pop genre a bit more (or probably a bit too much - wait is that an oxymoron?) But I do like country. The last country offering worth listening to is Carrie Underwood (the American Idol winner, ya know?), and since then the country scene has been rather quiet. Until Toby Keith releases her umpteenth CD - White Trash With Money. He has released a LOT of stuff, and I have no idea why he's able to do that. He's just released another greatest hits not so long ago. How can he sustain sales when he's releasing stuff this frequently? But apparently his CDs still sell like hot cakes. And this CD isn't bad at all. I love the slower songs. They're so country, which means they sound cheesy as hell, with a lot of Shania Twain's 'Come On Over' treatment in them. Although I do want him to release fun songs like 'Stays In Mexico' (which talks about a married guy foolin' around with a girl when they meet in Mexico during their vacation... morally corupt I know but it's a fun song nonetheless). The later numbers get boring though, but all that can be forgiven because the opening numbers are absolutely fantastic. Country is good. While pop songs are about love, love that works and love that doesn't, love that is totally narcissistic and love that is selfless (which IS narcissistic in the end), love that is sex and sex that is nothing, country reminds you that you don't take yourself too seriously to be happy. And that's why country is good. A Little Too Late and Crash Here Tonight are really good, and I mean REALLY good, because usually I don't prefer slow songs, but these ones are going to become classics! They just don't sound like they are the products of this decades. Maybe they're covers? I'm not sure.
